From the early days in Memphis, Cowboy Jack has been a magnet for gifted writers. After leaving Sun, he started his first publishing company called, what else, Jack Music, in 1959. A few years later, he combined forces with Bill Hall from Beaumont, Texas to form Hall-Clement, one of the legendary publishing companies in country music history. The catalogs have changed hands a number of times down through the years, but the songs themselves remain as cornerstones of the Nashville music industry. Cowboy opened the door that led many to the NSAI Hall of Fame. Some of the gems from his various catalogs:

Don Williams  ~  Dickey Lee  ~  Bob McDill
Allen Reynolds  ~  Townes Van Zandt  ~  Paul Craft
Jerry Foster  ~  Jim Rushing  ~  Shel Silverstein
Sandy Mason  ~  Stoney Edwards  ~  Dickey Lee
Bill Rice  ~  Wayland Holyfield  ~  Vince Matthews
